New Address Connection - With Maps !

We've added a new address connection with a maps feature. This new connection allows you to add a drop down map (web connection page) or a link to new page map (mobile connection page).

If you have an existing address on your connection page, it'll continue to view as normal. If you want to change to the new address connection, you'll need to delete your current address and add it again. Sorry about that.

To use the new address feature, add your address into the fields under the connection. Our systems will attempt to format your address correctly for display and also configure everything ready for map view. If we can't find a map from your entered address, we'll tell you.

You can then enable the map feature by clicking 'advanced' then 'extras' and turning on maps. Note that this will turn on the map feature on both web and mobile and by default they are both off.

The mobile address is a clickable field like any other active link. The web version gets a small link for the drop down map.

Note that at the moment, address connections cannot be autoconnected (that is, they can't automatically connect via a QR Code/NFC tag, etc). This is because we are finding a number of bugs with certain mobile configurations which would make it possibly unreliable. If we can make address autoconnect, we will.

For the curious, the line by line address input format is not required particularly for maps but is part of a future release for integrated vCard downloads which require a more formatted address. Even if you aren't bothered by maps or not, if you are interested in the future release of one click vCard downloads, then you might want to update your address connection anyway.

QR Code to Facebook Like or Twitter Follow

We've started releasing a range of connection features called 'extras'. These are additional elements you can add to connections to increase visitor interactivity.

The first of these is inline Facebook Like and Twitter Follow for your Facebook and Twitter connections. By adding these extras, you can allow visitors to your web or mobile connections page to one click Like or Follow your Facebook or Twitter connections.

To use this system, just add your Facebook page or Twitter account as usual as a connection. Click on advanced/extras and enable the inline Facebook Like or Twitter Follow extras. An inline blue box will appear below your connection like this :

QR Code to Facebook Like or Twitter Follow Graphic

The action that the user experiences after clicking on the the Follow or Like depends on the mobile or desktop platform and whether they are logged into Facebook or Twitter.

Using NFC Tag / QR Code to Facebook Like or NFC Tag / QR Code to Twitter Follow
We would suggest that if you are looking to create a QR Code or NFC Tag specifically to enable your users to 'Follow' or 'Like' you, then you might want to consider setting a Branch containing just the single connection so that you have a specific QR Code or NFC tag for this task.

Note that a number of users have asked whether it's possible to instantly Like or Follow from a QR Code scan. The answer is you can't. This isn't a Kimtag thing, it's a general thing with the way Facebook Like and Twitter Follows work. You need to hit a landing page first, or in the case of Kimtag, your connection page, before you can action the Like or Follow.

Changing Display Settings

We've added a new feature which allows you greater control over your connection display. You can now decide to show only the domain part of a connection, the data part, nothing at all or even remove any query string elements from the end.

Accessed via the 'advanced' link under each connection, it's a simple setting and easy to change.

Branches Full Release

We've completed the full release of Branches this morning. All Kimtag accounts now have two free branches so that users can trial and use Branches for free.

There's some help information at http://kimtag.com/s/help and some general information at http://kimtag.com/s/branches

New Connections : Floorplan and PDF

Added a couple of additional connections - PDF and Floorplan. Both are open links so you can link anywhere you like. PDF has an editable title as well but we'd suggest that when you edit, you keep 'PDF' in the title somewhere. For example, 'PDF Brochure' or 'PDF Presentation'.

We've set both to static which means that they can't autoconnect. We've seen some strange results autoconnecting a QR Code to a PDF so we'd suggest you let the user hit the connections page first then let them click on the PDF to download or view.

Connection Changes

We've made s few changes to the classification of some of the connections.

Not surprisingly, a number of our users had more than one website, email or phone number and were finding  fixed titles for these a bit restrictive. The requests were for the ability to change the title on the more generic connection types.

Which is what we have done. From now, the title on website, address, mobile, blog, email, telephone, video and store connection templates can be changed to whatever you want. Which means you can have 'work email' and 'personal email', etc. easily.

One of those changes we should have done ages ago and wonder why we didn't. But we have now.

All existing connections using these types are unaffected although if you want to change the title you can do this just by clicking 'edit'.

Three Letter Kimtags

We've just released the ability to register three letter Kimtags.

These are a cost option (we've got to make money somehow!) but the costs are very reasonable with almost all three letter Kimtags costing just £4.95 (UK Pounds) per year.

Usual registration process but it'll ask for payment in-between.

QR Code adverts - it's not us !

We've had a number of users asking recently about ads appearing when scanning QR Codes. Either as intermediary ads (before you see the connection page or redirect) or on the bottom of the connection page.

Firstly, it's not us. We don't show ads anywhere on our systems at all. Not on the web. Not on the mobile. Nothing. We are ad free.

It's almost always being caused by the QR Code reader itself. Some of them place ads onto the top or bottom of the page you've visited.

We would suggest trying another reader and if the problem still persists, then give us a shout and we'll try and figure it out for you.

Google Plus or Google Profile ?

We've added a new Google Profile connection to try and sort out some of the confusion between Google Plus profiles and Google Profiles.

The current situation is that Google Plus profiles do not have usernames, they only have numbers. An example would be :

https://plus.google.com/01234567890

To enter this into the Kimtag Google Plus connection template, you just take the number and add it into the  connection data field.

However, a number of people have 'old' Google Profiles accounts. With a Google Profile account you can select to use a username instead of the number (albeit a username associated with your Google account).

Google can now redirect the 'old' Google Profiles accounts to Google Plus profiles if you have a Google Plus profile, which means that you can have a 'username' instead of a number pointing to your Google Plus account but you can't actually use it with the https://plus.google.com web address.

If you are still following this, you are doing well.

What this means is this. Because the Kimtag Google Plus connection links only to Google Plus accounts, you can't use a username in this connection because, at the moment, it won't work properly.

So. Either use your Google Plus number with a Kimtag Google Plus connection, or use your Google Profile username (or number) with a Kimtag Google Profile connection. This applies even if Google redirects your Google Profile to your Google Plus profile.

If this still all doesn't make sense, remember that we're just an email away and you can always ask us for advice.

Flickr Connection Update

We've updated the Flickr connection entry format so that you can use the Flickr connection to connect to photostreams, profiles and groups instead of the previous photostream only.

All existing connections have been updated automatically to the new format.

Branches Settings Bug

We've become aware and have fixed a bug which meant some people will not have been able to access settings for newly created branches. Should be sorted. Any issues, email us.

Also, we know that the help files have gone walkabout. They'll be back very shortly !

Branches Now Released In Beta

We've now completed the full beta release of Branches. Branches allows you to create variations and copies of your master Kimtag for advanced tracking and marketing.

We think it's one of the best QR Code, NFC Tag and connection management systems on the market and it's going to get better over the next few months.

Finally, QR Code, NFC Tag and connection management made easy !

Branches Rollout

We'll be rolling out Kimtag Branches over the next couple of days. This is a large release but we don't expect any interruption to service of any kind.

Note that this release makes some minor changes to the menu structure. The 'settings' menu items have now been split into 'settings' and 'account'. What's under the menus hasn't changed, so if you can't find what you are looking for under 'settings' have a little look under 'account' !

We are also rolling out some new and improved help files both for Branches and for general use. Again, we don't expect any interruption to service.

Please note that all user have the ability to add Branches. However, because we are rolling this out carefully, Designer QR Codes and store orders will be linked to your main Kimtag rather than your branch to start with. If you want to order NFC tags, Designer QR Codes or other items for a branch rather than your main Kimtag, then please just drop us an email. When everything is up and running we'll roll out the next stage which will include integrated ordering for branches.

As always, any queries, issues or questions, just let us know.
